Convention Contests

The WSMA Board has been hard at work on a revamp of our convention contests. We’ve spent some time aligning to JEA contests and rubrics, as well as working to make student contests more applicable to our Wyoming Journalism students.

All-State Individual Awards

Student Portfolio Categories

  • Yearbook

  • Photography

  • Writing

  • Video

  • Portfolios will consist of 3-5 examples, showcasing the student's work.

  • Each student's work will scored on the quality of the work itself and the overall quality of the portfolio.

All-State Publication Awards

  • All-State Yearbook

  • All-State Newspaper (online or print)

    • 1A/2A and 3A/4A categories

    • Plaques to All-State Winners

    • All entries scored and given feedback

Submission Details

  • All submissions due by September 30, 2024. - SUBMISSIONS NOW CLOSED

    • Judging window in the month of October.

    • Prizes awarded at October 28th Convention.

  • Advisors should complete submissions.

    • All submissions will be sent in digitally in PDF form.

    • Use the buttons below to access Google forms for final publication or portfolio submissions.

  • Download the Contest Booklet below, which includes Contest Descriptions and Feedback Rubrics.

  • Contest Fees:

    • Yearbooks: up to 128 pgs: $40, over 128 pgs: $50

    • Newspaper: $40

    • Student Portfolios: $12 each

  • An invoice will be emailed to the advisor after the closing of entries on September 30th via Cheddar Up for payment. If a traditional invoice/purchase order is preferred, the advisor may request that.
